“It caused destruction of much of the city, around fifteen thousand houses destroyed...” (Fernando Campos Harriet) Concepción had already suffered other earthquakes of similar intensity that had rocked the bowels of the ground; nevertheless, as on other occasions, the city was rebuilt, new streets were formed, and new buildings were constructed. With their spirit, the citizens, who were always willing to overcome adversity, looked forwards to the future of their beloved land with hope. They demonstrated the deep roots of their life and history.
